Upholding Fairness and Balance in Reporting At G1NBC, our fundamental mission is to serve the public by delivering accurate, timely, and insightful news. We recognize that trust is the cornerstone of our relationship with our audience, and this trust is earned through unwavering commitment to ethical conduct, especially in our pursuit of fair and balanced reporting.
This code outlines the principles that guide every G1NBC journalist.
I. Seek Truth and Report It Fairly Accuracy is Paramount:
We will strive for absolute accuracy in all our reporting. We will diligently verify facts from multiple credible sources, cross-reference information, and never knowingly publish false or misleading information
Context and Nuance:
We understand that truth is often complex. We will provide sufficient context and nuance to help our audience understand the full picture, avoiding oversimplification or selective omission of facts that could distort understanding.
Attribute and Identify Sources:
We will clearly attribute all information to its source. We will identify sources whenever feasible and be transparent about why anonymity might be granted in rare and necessary circumstances.
Original Reporting First: We prioritize original reporting and direct observation. When reporting on information from other outlets, we will clearly attribute them.Correct Mistakes Promptly: When errors occur, we will acknowledge them quickly, clearly, and prominently, and correct them. Transparency in correction builds, rather than erodes, trust.II. Ensure Balance and ImpartialityPresent All Sides: We commit to presenting all relevant sides of a story fairly and equitably. This means actively seeking out and including diverse perspectives, even those that may challenge our own or the prevailing narrative.Avoid Taking Sides: Our role is to inform, not to advocate. We will avoid expressing personal opinions, biases, or endorsements within our news reporting. Our language will be neutral and dispassionate.Equitable Treatment: We will give due weight to all credible viewpoints. We will not grant disproportionate prominence to one perspective while downplaying or ignoring others simply because they are less popular or harder to obtain.Challenging Assumptions: We will critically examine our own assumptions and those of our sources.
