🎥 Hiring: Video Reporter / Multimedia Journalist (Local Media Co.)

Compensation: [Competitive Salary]

Employment Type: [Contract]

Location: [Livingston County Michigan]

About the Role

Are you a storyteller who thrives in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the editing suite? A local media company is looking for a versatile Multimedia Reporter to join our team.

We don’t just want someone who reads a script—we want a true journalist who can pitch compelling local stories, track down the right sources, conduct engaging interviews, and piece it all together into high-quality video content.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate & Report: Stay on top of local news, trends, and community stories. Pitch, research, and write accurate, compelling scripts.
  • Interview: Conduct engaging, on-camera and off-camera interviews with community members, officials, and local figures.
  • Produce & Edit: Shoot and edit your own video packages for our digital and social media platforms.

What We Are Looking For

  • Journalism Core: Solid background in journalism ethics, fact-checking, and storytelling.
  • Interviewing Chops: Ability to build quick rapport, ask the right follow-up questions, and make subjects comfortable on camera.
  • Video Editing Skills: Proficiency in editing software (such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or DaVinci Resolve) with a sharp eye for pacing, audio quality, and visual flow.
  • Reliability: Ability to work independently, meet tight deadlines, and navigate a fast-paced news environment.

Bonus Points If You Have:

  • Your own camera/audio gear (though not strictly required).
  • Experience formatting video for various platforms (YouTube, TikTok/Reels, Website).
  • A deep knowledge of and passion for our local community.

How to Apply

If you are a dynamic storyteller ready to make an impact locally, we want to hear from you! Please reply to this posting with:

  1. A brief introduction about yourself and your experience.
  2. Your resume.
  3. Links to your reel or examples of your work (specifically looking for interviewing and video editing samples).
  4. Title: Use something catchy but clear, like: Hiring: Video Reporter / Multimedia Journalist – Great Editing & Interview Skills Needed!
  5. Map/Location: Be sure to fill out the specific neighborhood or city section so local creators can find it easily.
  6. Screening: Craigslist can sometimes attract spam. Explicitly asking for a portfolio/reel link in the application instructions is a great way to filter out automated bots and unserious applicants.
