THE CITY PRESS CLUB – DAY
The City Press Club is now full, a cheerful din of conversation and clinking cutlery filling the air. Sunlight still streams in, catching the festive decorations. Guests are enjoying their meals, but the tension among the staff is palpable.
AVA is a whirlwind, effortlessly gliding between tables, checking on guests. She spots MR. HENDERSON, notebook in hand, observing the mimosa station.
AVA
(To herself, under her breath)
Okay, Ava. Deep breaths.
She approaches his table, a practiced smile on her face.
AVA
Mr. Henderson, enjoying the holiday spirit? May I get you anything else? More Prosecco for your mimosa?
MR. HENDERSON
(Without looking up from his notes)
The Prosecco is adequate. I’m more interested in the culinary integrity of this establishment. I hear Chef Marco has a reputation. Let’s see if it holds up to a holiday rush.
Marco, wiping his brow with a towel, sticks his head out of the kitchen.
MARCO
(Calling out)
Isabella! Table five needs more frittata! And tell them it’s made with organic farm eggs! Emphasize the eggs!
ISABELLA, balancing a tray, nods frantically. She almost bumps into MRS. PERIWINKLE, who is adjusting a napkin fold at a nearby table.
MRS. PERIWINKLE
(Haughtily)
Mind your step, dear. One wouldn’t want to create an incident during such a delicate affair.
Leo, who has been quietly observing the scene from a stool at the bar, sips his coffee. He catches Ava’s eye and gives her a reassuring thumbs-up.
Suddenly, a loud “CRASH!” comes from the kitchen. Everyone in the dining area pauses, heads turning. Mr. Henderson raises an eyebrow, poised to write.
Ava’s eyes widen in horror. She dashes towards the kitchen.
AVA
(Muttering)
Please, no. Not today.
Inside the kitchen, a chaotic scene. A stack of clean plates has toppled, shattered porcelain littering the floor. Marco stands amidst the wreckage, looking distraught.
MARCO
(Exasperated, throwing his hands up)
The new dishwasher! He stacked them too high! My beautiful serving plates! This is a disaster! How will we serve the next course?!
Isabella peeks in, her eyes wide.
ISABELLA
Oh no! Chef Marco, are you okay?
AVA
(Thinking fast)
Okay, everyone, calm down! Isabella, find some brooms and dustpans. Marco, we improvise. What do we have?
MARCO
(Wringing his hands)
Only the smaller appetizer plates now. And some of the deeper soup bowls. It won’t be the same! The presentation will be ruined!
Just then, LEO walks into the kitchen, looking at the mess.
LEO
Looks like a war zone in here. What’s the damage?
AVA
Shattered plates. We’re short on serving ware for the main course. Mr. Henderson is out there, Leo. He’s a shark.
Leo surveys the situation, then his eyes light up, looking at the diverse collection of plates still intact.
LEO
Wait a second. This isn’t a disaster, it’s a feature!
Marco and Ava stare at him.
MARCO
A feature? It’s a tragedy!
LEO
Think about it. We’re The City Press Club. Old school, authentic. This adds character! We can call it the “Chef’s Curated Collection” – each dish served on a uniquely chosen plate, a nod to the varied stories of the city. It’s artisan, it’s bespoke!
Ava’s eyes light up. She sees the potential.
AVA
(Excited)
Leo, you’re a genius! “A unique culinary journey, celebrating individuality!” It fits our brand! Isabella, go tell the front-of-house staff. Marco, plate everything with flair. Make those soup bowls look like they were always meant for roasted vegetables!
Marco, though still wary, nods. A small smile forms on his face as he starts strategizing.
Out in the dining room, CHLOE, the social media influencer, is live-streaming. She pans her phone around, capturing the festive atmosphere.
CHLOE
(To her phone)
…and The City Press Club perfectly blends classic Italian charm with a festive holiday vibe. The energy is truly infectious! Stay tuned for my review of their brunch dishes!
A few minutes later, plates begin to emerge from the kitchen. Each dish, perfectly prepared, is indeed presented on a different type of plate – some on smaller flat dishes, others in deeper bowls. The staff, now briefed by Ava, explain the “Chef’s Curated Collection” to curious guests.
Mr. Henderson receives his main course on a deep, ornate soup bowl. He examines it, then takes a bite. His expression is unreadable for a moment, then a slow nod. He writes something in his notebook.
MR. HENDERSON
(Muttering to himself)
…unexpected presentation choice… surprisingly effective… adds a certain rustic charm…
Mrs. Periwinkle, observing the various plates, initially looks appalled. But as she hears guests murmuring approvingly about the “unique touch,” her expression shifts.
MRS. PERIWINKLE
(To a nearby guest, a forced smile)
Yes, a rather… avant-garde approach this year. My suggestion, of course. A bold statement.
Ava, watching Mr. Henderson continue to eat and scribble, allows herself a quiet sigh of relief. She sees Isabella confidently serving guests, explaining the plates with a proud smile. She glances at Leo, who gives her another wink.
The City Press Club had faced a holiday hurdle, but with a bit of quick thinking, the Family working together, the Friends offering support, and a dash of Fabulous improvisation, they’d turned a potential disaster into another memorable success story.
(SCENE END)

[4

entry","post","publish","author-admin","post-47","format-image","has-post-thumbnail","category-tv-series","post_format-post-format-image","has-format
["GET
