Entry #2 – I get by with a little help from (my friends) Alex Trebek
It seems like it has been 20 years since I had the pleasure to attend Michigan State University, the greatest college in the world. In reality, it’s been three years since I graduated. In the three years since I lived in the fantasy world that is MSU, I have worked at two Fortune 600 firms, dated the best girlfriend a guy could ask for, and moved 2000 miles across the country to sunny San Diego, California.
Here’s a list of things that will help you get from College to Retirement without losing your sanity.
1) Love – Many people are not as fortunate as I to have found this so early in life. She is my best friend and makes it that much easier to enjoy the present, rather than living in the past or wondering about the future.
2) Fantasy Sports- Particularly fantasy baseball. Finding a good league is half the battle.
3) Save your money- How else will you one day retire?
4) Jeopardy- for 30 minutes a day (or 20 if you DVR like me) I live in the fantasy world with Alex Trebeck, and one day will make it a reality.
5) Video games- the ultimate fantasy world. I can make the Detroit Lions win football games, I can play a live rock show even though I have no musical talent, and I can fight the Germans in World War 2 with my friends who live across the country.
6) www.restaurants.com – If you don’t know about this website, you are losing out on free money. Buy $100 gift cards for $50, buy $25 cards for $10, etc. Don’t believe me, check it out!!!
